Dag 14, Isle of Bute

Vanmorgen zijn we uit Kinlochleven vertrokken naar Isle of Bute. We besloten richting Oban te rijden en stopten eerst bij Castle Stalker a.k.a Castle Aaargh (Monty Python).

Ze hebben daar een leuke tearoom, goede koffie, een prima uitzicht en een wc... Toch wel prioriteit voor een beroepszeikerd als ik 🚽🧻🚰😂.

Daarna ging Peter... en ik dus ook... uit puur principe even in Oban kijken, want in Oban regent het ALTIJD!! (tenminste de vier keren hiervoor dat wij er waren). Wat schetste dus onze verbazing? Het regende niet in Oban. (Tot we de stad uit reden, toen begon het... De bui was gewoon te laat bleek).

Vanaf Oban zijn we onderlangs richting Lochgilphead gereden, met als uitstapje een lunch bij de sluizen van Crinan. Daar waren we in 2013 ook en het was nog steeds leuk... Een ook weer zonnig (tot we weggingen), toen kwam de bui uit Oban, weer te laat, aan 🤣.

Hierna zijn we via Inveraray nog verder afgezakt via klein 'coastal routes' tot we bij de ferry van Colintraive naar Bute kwamen. 

Op Bute lijkt maar 1 weg te zijn.  We zijn nu in Rothesay, de enige stad op Bute. Deze stad is een beetje ‘vergane glorie’, maar we hebben prima gegeten in een pub vlakbij het hotel, wat overigens ook weer een prima locatie is. Morgen gaan we het eiland verkennen.

This morning we left Kinlochleven, heading for  the Isle of Bute. We decided to head towards Oban and had our first stop at Castle Stalker a.k.a Castle Aaargh (Monty Python). They have a nice tearoom, good coffee, a great view and not unimportant...a toile ...🚽 🚰.

Then Peter... and so me too... purely out of principle, took a turn to Oban itself, because ...in Oban it is ALWAYS rainin !! (At least the four times we were there before). So we were really surprised that it didn't rain in Oban this time... That is, until we drove out of town, then it started 😂. (the shower was just belated).

From Oban we drove in the direction of Lochgilphead and took a little detour for lunch at the locks of Crinan, at the end of the Crinan canal. We were there in 2013 and it was still fun... and it was sunny again... (until we left... then the shower from Oban arrived... again too late) .

After lunch we went on via Inveraray over small coastal routes until we reached the ferry from Colintraive to Bute. We are now in Rothesay, the only city on Bute. This city is a bit of a "faded glory", but we had a good dinner in a pub close to the hotel, which by the way is a great location with a spacious room and real kingsize bed. 😴😴. Tomorrow we will go and explore the island.
