Dag 15, Bute

The isle of Bute is klein, erg klein. Maar je kunt je er prima een dag vermaken.

Rothesay is het enige stadje en wat in verval, maar je ziet dat men erg bezig is met renoveren en herstel, wat naar onze mening ook de enige manier is om het eiland levend te houden.

House Mount Stuart is super. Hier hebben we een rondleiding gehad. De familie heeft een rijke historie, letterlijk en figuurlijk. Het marmer was niet aan te slepen en het (hand)houtsnijwerk en details in het bewerkte marmer zijn prachtig. 

Dit huis is een bezoekje waard. De tuinen en bos om het huis zijn ook erg mooi. De ferry vanaf Glasgow is slechts een tochtje van een half uur.

Vandaag rijden dwars door Schotland, van Glasgow naar Duns (bij Berwick upon Tweed) en zullen de Border Mill bezoeken. Leuk, een rondleiding èn de sjaal laten zien (en een KLM-koffertje met ‘lekkers’ afgeven.

The Isle of Bute is small, very small. 

But you can have a great day there. Rothesay is the only (real) town on the island and somewhat in decline but you can see that people are very busy renovating and repairing, which in our opinion is  the only way to keep the island alive and attract people to it.

Mount Stuart is superb. Here we had a guided tour. The family has a rich history, literally.

There is marble everywhere and  the (hand) carvings and details in the worked wood and marble are beautiful. 

This house is worth a visit.

The ferry from Glasgow is only a half-hour trip, so you can do this without spending the night on Bute if you do not have the time for it.

Today drive straight through Scotland, from Glasgow to Duns (near Berwick upon Tweed) and will visit the Border Mill for our tour, to show the scarf and bring a KLM suitcase full of goodies. 😊
